I am trying to connect my laptop to my sister’s wireless network (linksys) and it is asking for a network security key. Someone else set up the network and neither my sister nor my brother-in-law know what the password is. I tried to access the ip address (192.168.1.1) but it is asking for a logon name and password- again- don’t have one. any help is appreciated. thanks
Hi,
this is easy just look at the back of your router and there will be a small hole, just push a pin into it for longer then 6 Sec’s and Bingo your router will be reset back to factory settings again (NO WEP etc), hope this helps you, and don’t forget to reset your WEP and MAC up again will you.

Check either:
The instructions for the router OR the under-side of the router.
Usually the default username/password combo for 192.168.1.1 will be printed in one of those locations.

You’ll have to ask whoever set it up for those items.
Most routers can be restored to their factory configuration by powering them off and holding down the reset button and turning them back on. You’d have to start the configuration process from the beginning though so you’ll need the manufacturer’s instructions in hand before you start.
If you don’t have the instructions handy you can download them from the manufacturer’s website. If you can provide the make, model and version numbers from the router, I can post a link to the instructions for you, if you wish.

the default assuming that it was not changed is usually no username and admin for the password. In addition the default security key is sometimes the serial number on the device itself.
This is true of SBC 2 wire dsl wireless modem/routers. The user name and password above does work on linksys routers.

The network security key is usually on the serial number/model number tag on the bottom of the router.
The default password to Linksys routers is "admin" Try that. If they didn’t change the password, then admin should get you in. Leave the username blank, password admin
