This is how you can remove the Popup Ads in Avira AntiVir Personal (Free Version)
While Avira Antivir has one of the best detection rates of all antivirus, one of the main disadvantages is that after updating, you get annoying full-screen ads nagging you to upgrade. To remove it, follow these instructions:
Windows XP:
1. Start — Run — Type secpol.msc (Local Security Settings) or go to Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and click the Local Security Policy
2. Click on Software Restriction Policies — right-click on Additional Rules — choose New Path Rule
3. Click Browse and find the avnotify.exe file (C:Program File\AviraAntiVir PersonalEdition Classic)
4. Make sure the security level is set to Disallowed and click OK
Windows Vista Business/Ultimate:
1. Start — Control Panel — Administrative Tools — Local security policy
2. Click on Software Restriction Policy — Action — Create new restriction policy — right-click on Additional Rules — choose New Path Rule
3. Click Browse and find the avnotify.exe file (C:Program File\AviraAntiVir PersonalEdition Classic)
4. Make sure the security level is set to Disallowed and click OK
Windows Vista Home Premium:
1. Go to C:Program FilesAviraAntiVir PersonalEdition Classicavnotify.exe
2. Right-click avnotify.exe and go to Properties — Security
3. Under the group or username SYSTEM, click edit
4. Put a checkmark under the DENY column for “read and execute”
Done. What you have done is disallowed the execution of avnotify.exe, which should suppress the popup window.
